Top Wall Street Analysts Highlight Three Promising Dividend Stocks to Navigate Market Volatility

In an environment marked by persistent market volatility, dividend-paying stocks continue to serve as a cornerstone for investors looking to balance their portfolios. Beyond offering the potential for long-term capital appreciation, these equities provide a steady and reliable income stream that can cushion portfolios against broader economic swings. For investors seeking exposure to the dividend space, identifying companies backed by robust underlying financials and reliable cash flows is critical to ensuring consistent payouts.

To help navigate this landscape, recommendations from top-tier Wall Street analysts offer valuable insight, highlighting companies with the fiscal strength required to sustain and grow their distributions. Utilizing performance-tracking data from TipRanks—a platform that ranks financial analysts based on their historical accuracy and returns—market participants can zero in on standout income opportunities. Based on recent analyst notes, three specific dividend-paying stocks have emerged as top picks among Wall Street’s most reputable professionals: Energy Transfer, Permian Resources, and Sempra Energy.

Energy Transfer

Energy Transfer stands out as a major diversified midstream energy operator, commanding an expansive footprint of approximately 140,000 miles of pipelines and vital energy infrastructure spread across 44 states. Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to returning capital to shareholders, the company declared a quarterly cash distribution of 34 cents per common unit for the second quarter. Translated into an annualized payment of $1.36 per common unit, this payout translates to an attractive dividend yield of roughly 6.3%.

The company’s strong fundamental momentum recently prompted JPMorgan analyst Jeremy Tonet to reiterate his buy rating on Energy Transfer stock while slightly lifting his price target to $25 from $24. In his commentary, the analyst emphasized that the midstream operator delivered a robust second-quarter financial performance, beating expectations across all key operational and financial metrics.

A primary driver of this optimism is Energy Transfer’s upward revision of its full-year 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance. The company now expects adjusted EBITDA to land between $18.8 billion and $19.1 billion, a notable step up from its previous projection of $18.2 billion to $18.6 billion. Tonet noted that this improved outlook is underpinned by resilient base operational results and rigorous cost optimization initiatives. Furthermore, the 5-star analyst pointed out that management has tightened its capital expenditure guidance to a range of $5.6 billion to $5.9 billion, while anticipating annual capital investments to remain above $5 billion through 2029 to capture solid organic growth opportunities.

Operational catalysts are also firmly in motion. Regarding the Hugh Brinson pipeline project, Tonet highlighted that Phase 1, boasting a capacity of 1.5 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd), is on track to reach full capacity by September 1. Meanwhile, Phase II, which will add another 0.7 bcfd of capacity, is scheduled to go online by the first quarter of 2027. Additional infrastructure milestones include the completion of a 14-mile Hugh Brinson lateral in Abilene, Texas, alongside advanced, final-stage discussions regarding an additional 250 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of power plant demand in Oklahoma.

"All in, we see ET well positioned to continue capitalizing on organic growth opportunities across the value chain," Tonet remarked. Ranked No. 922 among more than 12,500 analysts tracked by TipRanks, Tonet boasts a profitable rating history 57% of the time, yielding an average return of 9%.

Permian Resources

Shifting focus to the upstream sector, independent oil and natural gas producer Permian Resources has also captured the attention of top Wall Street analysts looking for compelling dividend opportunities. The company formally declared a base dividend of $0.16 per share for the third quarter, scheduled to be distributed to shareholders on September 30. Based on this distribution, the annualized dividend sits at $0.64 per share, offering investors a dividend yield of approximately 2.7%.

Goldman Sachs analyst Neil Mehta remains distinctly bullish on the producer, recently reiterating a buy rating while significantly raising his price target to $27 from $22. Mehta’s revised target is anchored by an increasingly optimistic outlook surrounding the company’s oil production growth trajectory and ongoing improvements in operational efficiencies.

Although Permian Resources stock has already outperformed many of its industry peers, Mehta believes the equity holds substantial room for further upside. The 5-star analyst expressed high confidence in the firm’s operational execution and its proven ability to generate incremental free cash flow on a per-share basis, largely driven by its strategic "ground game" program. According to data available through early August, this targeted acquisition and leasing strategy has successfully completed approximately $1.05 billion in bolt-on deals throughout the year.

"We see the continued success of PR’s ground game as constructive toward future inventory replenishment and increasing working interest over time," Mehta stated.

Beyond near-term operational wins, the analyst underscored Permian Resources’ impressive historical track record of expanding free cash flow per share. Looking ahead, Mehta projects that the company’s free cash flow per share will compound at an impressive compound annual growth rate of 20% between 2025 and 2028. Mehta holds a prestigious position as No. 401 among over 12,500 analysts monitored by TipRanks, maintaining a 64% success rate and delivering an average return of 12.8%.

Sempra Energy

Rounding out the trio of top dividend selections is Sempra Energy, a prominent utility holding company with extensive operations in regulated infrastructure. Earlier in the month, management announced a quarterly dividend of $0.6575 per share, payable to investors on October 15. With an annualized dividend payout of $2.63 per share, Sempra stock currently yields about 3.1%.

The utility major recently drew a notable upgrade from Jefferies analyst Julien Dumoulin-Smith, who elevated his rating on Sempra stock to Buy from Hold while modestly trimming his price target to $97 from $101. Smith pointed out that Sempra shares have been trading at a price-to-earnings multiple roughly 14% below those of its electric utility peers. This valuation discount has primarily been driven by market concerns regarding Texas transmission capital expenditure requirements and recent legislative hurdles in California.

Smith elaborated that while the derating of troubled California peers such as PG&E and Edison International has weighed on Sempra’s sum-of-the-parts valuation, those comparisons are becoming increasingly irrelevant given Sempra’s materially lower wildfire risk profile relative to its in-state counterparts.

Furthermore, the analyst anticipates that Sempra Energy’s broader Texas capital expenditure plan will remain intact despite localized opposition to new transmission lines and data centers, though he acknowledged that some delays to 765-kilovolt projects are probable. While a full macroeconomic recovery for Sempra stock will likely require a clearer legislative outcome in Texas, Smith argues that current market pricing presents an attractive early entry point for patient, long-term investors.

"我们 are early on the upgrade but see limited downside at current levels as the market is pricing in little transmission upside," Smith noted. Ranked No. 945 among more than 12,500 tracked analysts, Smith maintains a 61% profitability rate across his recommendations, generating an average return of 8.2%.
